What Does a Healthy Lifestyle Really Mean? (And Why It Starts with Nourishing Yourself First)

If you ask me, a healthy lifestyle isn’t about perfection. It’s not about strict rules, extremes, or chasing an ideal. True health is about balance — nourishing your body, protecting your environment, moving with intention, sleeping deeply, and surrounding yourself with meaningful connection.

If you’ve ever wondered what healthy living actually means - here’s a grounded, realistic guide that brings together nutrition, toxin-free living, exercise, sleep, wellness, and friendship — all rooted in one simple truth: You cannot pour from an empty cup.....Health begins by nourishing yourself first.

So first, what actually is a Healthy Lifestyle?

It means different things to different people, but here are my favourite pillars and top tips: Eating nourishing, whole foods - its all about wholistic balance and nutrient dense foods, which you can enjoy and feel good! Have you tried our chocolate brownie nut butter with superfood maca yet instead your usual sugary chocolate craving?

Reducing toxic exposure in your home and body - I actually started switching plastic for wood and glass or steel in the kitchen, same actually with cloths and cleaning products, just being a little bit more mindful what materials surround yourself at home...

Moving your body regularly - choice is yours, what makes you feel you want to go out and move?

Prioritising restorative sleep - I love a good sleep and if tired wont hesitate to go to bed early!

Managing stress - a walk, meeting friends or maybe even a sound bath class? I have discovered Yin, Yoga, which really helps with letting go of stress...

Building supportive relationships - find more time with family and friends

These all are not a trend - as long you enjoy the process, they are sustainable ways of of nourishing yourself long-term.

Lets dive down a bit deeper:

1. Nutrition- Everything begins with nourishment. I really do get passionate about nutrition so here are my two cents about what makes me feel good and:

Healthy eating doesn’t mean restriction — it means choosing foods that fuel your energy, hormones, digestion, and mood.

  1. Whole, minimally processed foods - i love to avoid additives in food
  2. Quality proteins and healthy fats - such as nut butters of course :)
  3. Fibre-rich vegetables and fruits - a bit of colour on the plate
  4. Stable blood sugar support - no need for all the sugars
  5. Proper hydration - a simple glas of water goes a long way....

Form me, nourishment is the first step because it builds the strength to change everything else....

2. Living a Low-Toxin Lifestyle - Modern life surrounds us with so many chemicals in food packaging, cleaning products, skincare, and even cookware. Living more toxin-aware doesn’t mean fear — it means informed choices.

Here are my top tips to reduce toxins:

  1. Choose glass or stainless steel over plastic
  2. Use natural cleaning products
  3. Read ingredient labels in skincare
  4. Filter drinking water
  5. Avoid ultra-processed foods

Every small switch reduces your body’s toxic load and supports long-term wellness.

3. Exercise - Movement as Self-Respect
I think the most important part is that you pick something you actually enjoy doing so you will actually want to go out to move. Of course in the beginning it requires more motivation but in the end your body will realise that this really means feeling way and drags you out even when your head does not want it....

Top Tip: Mix and match your activities: Walking outdoors. Strength training. Yoga. Dancing in your kitchen. Consistency matters more than intensity and every little helps....

4. Sleep - The Most Underrated Health Tool and i do really get very excited to go to bed each evening actually, especially when I have filled my day with lots of exciting things to do....

Aim for 7–9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Create a wind-down routine. Dim lights. Avoid screens before bed. Treat sleep like a priority, not a luxury.

5. Wellness -True wellness extends beyond the physical its also about your mind and spirit have you actually taken some tome to listen in?

Below some ways that help me to stay in tune with myself:

  1. Stress management - not an easy one in our busy lives but its about really listening in when enough is enough and to create a little downtime for yourself. Maybe even alone-time....
  2. Mindfulness practices - from yoga to sound bath or the sauna, these are my ways to stay mindful but you can pick what ever helps you - maybe meditation?
  3. Gratitude - often is forgotten but good to remember this boosts your morale quite a lit
  4. Time in nature
  5. Personal boundaries - this is an important one - also not easy but you learn and grow and will realise it will bring you far :)

6. Friendship and Social Connection

I don't need to say much about this - we all know that we do feel better after spending time with our closest ones....

Does this sound a lot? I would say, just start simple, step by step....
Eat one nourishing meal today.

  1. Drink more water.
  2. Go for a 20-minute walk.
  3. Go to bed 30 minutes earlier.
  4. Message a friend you care about.
  5. Small habits compound.

My final thoughts:

Health Is Balance, Not Perfection
A healthy lifestyle is not about extremes or control. It’s about creating a life where your body feels supported, your mind feels calm, and your relationships feel meaningful.

 It’s balanced nutrition.
 Cleaner living.
 Joyful movement.
 Deep sleep.
 Strong friendships.
And daily choices rooted in self-worth.
 Start by nourishing yourself first.

Everything else grows from there... ✨
